This site was originally created to support the Australasian Cycling History Conference series, which ran from 20xx to 2011, when the Conference was due to be held in Christchurch, New Zealand.
In February of that year, Christchurch was hit by a magnitude 6.3 earthquake, which heavily damaged the city. Whilst the conference venue survived most of the accomodation options and road system were destroyed or heavily damaged and the decision was quickly made to cancel that year’s conference.
Whilst the City of Christchurch has largely recovered, the conference lost energy and has not been held since, despite some discussions taking place over the years.
The website had been expanded to cover aspects of cycling history in Australasia, particularly with regard to personal knowledge and experience. The site was originally written in Joomla and has recently (early 2024) been rebuilt as a WordPress site.
It will continue to expand as time is available to further develop the site.
