Bill was the long time Secretary of the Retail Cycle Traders Australia, the national association for bicycle retailers. He was also a promoter of bicycle racing, a bicycle retailer (Progress Cycles - Chapel Street, Windsor) and many other things.

He was behind the push to save the wooden Olympic Velodrome in Melbourne (from the 1956 Olympics) and was an early adopter of using venues for more than one purpose.
